Phoebe Koundouri appointed National Pivot for the Greek Energy Platform during 2nd meeting of the BlueMed Platforms

ICRE8 scientifc director Prof Phoebe Koundouri (ICRE8, AUEB, LSE) and ICRE8 senior researcher Stella Tsani participated in the 2nd meeting of the BlueMed Platforms, held in Athens, Greece, on the 1st and the 2nd of February 2018. The meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the surveys' results and the first update of the SRIA. Phoebe Koundouri is appointed the National Pivot for the Greek Energy Platform. Stella Tsani led the work on analysis of the results from the survey performed in Greece for the Economy Platform.
The main challenges identified by the respondents included the identification and inclusion of the environmental costs and impacts of actions, the identification of the funding opportunities and channeling of available funding towards efficient actions and policies and the potential exploration of oil and gas reserves in the Mediterranean and the associated economic and environmental impact. Bottlenecks discussed included the presence and impact of asymmetric information and implications for economic policy design and implementation, the cultural, development, policy priorities differentials among countries in the Mediterranean region and the need to design and implement not only short- and medium- term economic policies and goals but also to address, effectively design and apply long- term economic policies.
