The Symposium Agenda Results

The Research Center "Athena", in the framework of the European projects OpenAIRE, infrastructure for Open Science in Europe, and the RDA Europe 4, the European plug-in of Research Data Alliance (RDA), is organizing a two-day symposium entitled: "Open Science in the Greek research ecosystem: research processes, research data and partnerships". Symposium To be held from 29 to 30 November in Athens (Athinais).
 
The Symposium will be attended by representatives of research and higher-education institutions of the country to inform the audience about their contributions, services and their work, and to be informed of the efforts at European and national levels as well as the latest developments in infrastructure, services, policies and legal issues around Open Science. Registration and participation in the Symposium is free.
 
The objectives of the Symposium:
1. To understand the national research ecosystem, institutional characteristics, the actions of main stakeholders and initiatives undertaken, with regard to open access to publications and research data, new ways of peer review of research, open methodologies and other activities under the umbrella of open science and operations for research data
2. To prioritize institutional and technical issues for implementing horizontal and research infrastructure and services, for a strong representation of Greece in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)
3. To learn and familiarize with new tools and technologies for research, created both within the HELIX national infrastructure, RDA and OpenAIRE and through the other projects and synergies. These may include interoperability and repositories infrastructure services, tools to create and apply Data Management Plans, enrollment of e-infrastructure service tools to the European service catalogue, etc.
 
Partnerships: The symposium will be held in cooperation among OpenAIRE, RDA Europe (Research Alliance Alliance EU-plug in), and the National Data Service HELIX-Hellenic.

  • HELIX Data & Lab Workshop: User training in posting and use of open scientific data in the Hellenic Data Service. The session is organised in two sections covering activities of the full lifecycle of the data.

    • HELIX Data. Step-by-step we will explore metadata production, select a suitable license, and manage data in the Greek Data Services catalog. We'll show you how to share your data in just a few minutes and implement the National and European Open Sharing policies. Bring your data, become the first users of the directory and train your partners in data sharing.

    • HELIX Lab. Learn how to experiment and analyze scientific data using the Jupiter Notebooks service offered by the Hellenic Data Service. Through your browser and the programming language you prefer, you have access to scalable computing infrastructure to support you in your research. If you are already using Notebooks, you know Python or R, or you are into Data Science, we can show you how HELIX Lab can help you.
