The
Second Sustainability Summit for SEE and the Metideterranean will take place on
October 1st - 2nd, 2018 at
Hilton Athens Hotel with the support of
"Athena" Research Center.
Following the adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals within the context of
Agenda 2030, governments and the private sector are working on stablishing ways and practices that will allow efficient and effective implementation of the Goals.
On the way to achieving sustainability by 2030, technological developments, innovative practices and materials, sustainable investment and new partnerships are being pursued, with the hope to lead humanity to this new era of development and welfare. On the other hand, conceptual challenges, weak governance structures and institutions, limited transparency and financing restrictions are only some of the shortcomings that hinder progress toward this end.
Can these shortcomings be overcome? Can modern tools, action plans and initiatives be created and implemented to effectively engage in the promotion of the SDGs? Is it possible to cut across the isolation of sectors and create synergies overcoming the Silo Effect*? How will national governments accelerate the process in order to achieve the SDGs? Are financial institutions getting ready for the new era of sustainable financing? How will private businesses at the national and global level turn this challenge into new opportunities and prepare for the future? Is it possible for governments and the public sector to cooperate on this front and provide joint solutions?
Against this setting, The *Economist* Events has partnered with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, A Global Initiative for the United Nations, the SDGs Centre for Governance and Public Law, jointly developed by the Cambridge University Institute for Sustainability Leadership and the European Public Law Organization, to organize the 2nd Sustainability Summit for South-East Europe and the Mediterranean, on October 1st - 2nd, 2018.
The General Director of the
“Athena” Research Center,
Prof. Yannis Ioannidis and the Principal Researcher and the Vice-Director of
Information Management Systems Institute of the
“Athena” Research Center, Dr. Theodore Dalamagas, will give a talk on October 2nd about new technologies and education facilitating the SDGs.
