Nikos Karagiannakis holds a Diploma degree in Computer Engineering & Informatics from the University of Patras (CEID). Since 2013, he works as a software engineer at the Information Management Systems Institute (IMSI) of "Athena" Research and Innovation Center. His main role is to design and develop software systems and innovative applications focusing on geospatial and big data management. In the last years, he has been actively involved in three European research projects: GeoKnow, DAIAD and SLIPO (FP7, Horizon2020).
He has extensive experience in developing systems for the management and semantic integration of geospatial data, as well as in developing and applying machine learning techniques for the semantic annotation of geospatial data. He has participated and contributed to various open source repositories, such as the OpenStreetMap toolbox with the development of an automatic annotation plugin for geo-spatial entities. He has published several articles in international conferences in the above research fields.
