Anestis Koutsoudis was born in Kavala in 1977 and grew up in the city of Xanthi, Greece. He received his Bachelor of Science (Hons) Computer Studies (Visualisation) from the School of Maths and Computing of the University of Derby and his Master of Science in Multimedia Technology from the Computer Science Department of the University of Bath. In 2010, he defended his PhD on “Content Based Retrieval of 3D Objects and MPEG-7 Metadata” from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Democritus University of Thrace. Since his undergraduate studies, he has been working as a freelancer in the area of software engineering and computer graphics. He has also worked as the head of the IT department of the regional TV channel Channel 6 - Radio Television SA. Since 2006, he is working in the Athena Research and Innovation Centre where he currently holds a principal research position. He is also a member of the Clepsydra digitisation centre research team. For more than fifteen years, he has participated in many research and development projects with emphasis on real time 3D graphics programming, multimedia, 3D digitisation, 3D digitisation, information retrieval and IT applications in the cultural heritage and education domains. His scientific published work has more than 450 citations. He is a reviewer in international journals and conferences. He participates in conference scientific committees. He is a member of the teaching staff of the postgraduate course "Applied Archaeological Sciences" of the University of the Aegean, while he has been a member of dissertation and PhD committees. He has also supervised the working placements of visiting students. He is a senior member of the IEEE Computer Society and a member of the Hellenic Informatics Union, a founding member of the Athena RC Researchers association and an evaluator of the Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS Belgium).
